Making up what was a postponed game between 4A-2 Conference rivals, the Southside Southerners racked up eight runs on their way to an 8-0 shutout triumph over Heber Springs, in the home finale for seniors Jacob Bremmon, Jacob Blasingame, Seth Jenkins, Justin Bray, Curtis Hutchinson, Dillon Creasey, and Brandon Loethen.
After a scoreless opening inning from both teams, Southside struck first before unleashing for seven runs off thirteen hits to blow the game wide open, keeping the Panthers in check all game long behind solid offense and defense.
For Southside (14-2), freshman Bo Trucks and sophomore Cole Langston each went two for three with a run scored, with Trucks driving in three runs. Sophomore Braden Jones struck out six in five frames on the mound, while junior Grant Patterson retired three in two innings of work.
Blasingame finished two for three at the plate, Nick Chaney provided the third hit for the Panthers (14-9). Jenkins pitched 3.2 innings, giving up 11 hits and five earned runs. Blasingame came on in relief, allowing two hits and three walks, striking out one batter.
Heber faces the Stuttgart Ricebirds Monday night in the district tournament held at Baptist Prep. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00.
