Tannenbaum Golf Club’s slogan is “Arkansas’ best kept secret.” Presumably, the slogan comes from its remote location near the shores of Greers Ferry Lake. It’s certainly no secret to area high school golfers, who converge on the course at least once per week for matches.
West Side and Concord both call the course home and Heber Springs came out for a round on Tuesday as three of four county schools competed. Heber’s boys and girls’ teams battled Clinton on the back nine while Concord and West Side played Guy-Perkins on the front nine.
Heber’s girls defeated an upstart Clinton bunch with a three-player total of 126. Senior Katie Webb led the way with a 36, classmate Morgan Fires followed with a 42 and sophomore Alexis Ingram scored 48 to round out the Lady Panthers’ total. Clinton’s group of girls was very young and inexperienced, thus, did not turn in a score.
Courtney Verser (53), Ashlee Barbee (54), and Kate Reese (55) also participated for Heber.
Clinton beat Heber by five strokes in the boys’ match. Jackson Thomas led the Panthers with a score of 38, Nate Bartlett followed with a 45 and Tanner Rockwell shot an uncharacteristic 48 for a team total of 131.
Both Heber teams played Thursday at Cooper’s Hawk in Melbourne before traveling to Seacry Country Club for a match on Monday. Heber returns home to Red Apple for a match with Cabot and Clinton next Thursday.
Concord’s boys (148) beat West Side by five strokes and Guy-Perkins by 11. Ryan Cornelison and Luke Cornett led the Pirates with a pair of 47’s while Cameron Reesor and AJ Cannon each posted a score of 54.
The Eagles totaled a score of 153 as Hunter Wolfe and Cody Barger led the way with a pair of 49’s and Austin Gray finished with a 55.
West Side won the girls’ match with a total of 172, beating Guy by three shots. Concord had two female golfers, therefore, couldn’t compete as a team.
Meagan Milidonis led the Lady Eagles to victory with a 55 while Mara Duncan followed with a 58 and Brooks Rogers added a 59 for the total. For Concord, Jenny Lawrence tallied a score of 61 and Savannah Hudgens chipped in a round of 62.
