The top-seeded Mount Vernon-Enola Warhawks, who received a first-round bye, outscored West Side in all four quarters on Monday to win 62-47 and advance to the Greers Ferry Lake Classic championship game versus second-seeded Nemo Vista.

West Side took its only lead with six minutes left in the first quarter when forward Dalton Treece nailed a three-pointer from top of the key. MVE guard Brooks Tipton scored the next seven points, sparking an 11-0 run that also included back to back baskets by guard Tanner Smothers.

The Warhawks, who improved to 12-5, led 13-7 after the first quarter and 33-22 at halftime as power forward Newly Martin came alive in the second quarter, pumping in 12 points, while guard Keeton McEntire added six.

In the third quarter Tipton drilled a pair of three-pointers while McEntire and Smothers each connected from beyond the arc as the Warhawks outscored West Side 12-10 in the period to take a 45-32 lead to the final eight minutes of play.

Down 47-32 after a pull up jumper by McEntire, the Eagles scrapped to the end, using a 9-2 run to close within eight. Forward Mason Treece ignited West Side with a bucket in the paint and twin brother forward Dalton Treece followed with a leaner in traffic, plus contact.

Dalton Treece completed the three-point play, but McEntire sank two free throws before Dalton Treece grabbed a defensive rebound and drove coast-to-coast for a layup.

West Side guard Randon Carlton added a pull up jumper in transition as the Eagles cut their deficit to eight at 49-41 midway through the fourth quarter.

MVE put the game away by scoring the next seven points, starting with a strong drive by Tipton. Martin powered up for a bucket from left block while drawing a foul and he converted from the line to complete the three-point play.
