As a child, didn’t you just hate to hear the word “obedience”? I know I sure did.  Not that I was a bad kid, but sometimes it was hard to obey.  Our Sunday School lesson last week was on that very word. Obedience:  Compliance with an order, request, law, or submission to another's authority.  As a child, I did not understand the importance of obeying or being obedient.  Looking back, I now know that it was in my best interest.  Not just to keep me safe, but to prepare for obedience to God.  Without learning submission to my parents, there would be no submission to God.  I really wanted those boundaries as a child, just wasn’t willing to admit it. Children need boundaries not only in everyday life but also in serving God.  Without God setting them and we are obedient to them, life would be a mess. (at least for me)

Thank you, parents, for setting those boundaries and teaching me to obey them.  You were getting me ready to obey God’s word and His plan for my life. Had obedience not been required at my house, obeying God would be more difficult. Yes, more difficult cause sometimes it is really difficult to listen much less obey.

Doing some research about obeying God, I ran across eight reasons to obey.

1.      Jesus Calls Us to Obedience: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” (John 14:15, ESV 2.      Obedience Is an Act of Worship:

“ And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy

sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.” (Romans 12:1, NLT)

3.      God Rewards Obedience: Jesus replied, "But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice." (Luke 11:28, NLT) 4.      Obedience to God Proves Our Love:               “ Love means doing what God has commanded us, and he has commanded us to love one another, just as you             heard from the beginning.” (2 John 6, NLT)      5.    Obedience to God Demonstrates Our Faith:

“And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. If someone claims, "I know God," but doesn't obey God's commandments,

that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. But those who obey God's word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we

are living in him. Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.” (1 John 2:3–6, NLT)

             6.   Obedience Is Better Than Sacrifice:             But Samuel replied, "What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is               better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as             worshiping idols. So because you have rejected the command of the LORD, he has rejected you as king." (1 Samuel 15:22–23, NLT)             7.   Disobedience Leads to Sin and Death:             “ For as by the one man's [Adam's] disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's [Christ's] obedience the many will be made             Righteous”. (Romans 5:19, ESV)        8.  Through Obedience, We Experience the Blessings of Holy Living:

“ Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward

complete holiness because we fear God”. (2 Corinthians 7:1, NLT)

Wow! You talk about stepping on toes, this certainly stepped on my toes.  It also is comfort about obeying God’s word, not for the rewards on Earth, but for eternal rewards. God Bless Amen
