The National Weather Service, North Little Rock, is predicting rain with a possible chance of winter mix, with snow to the east, into the weekend.

Per the service’s report, released this morning, rain is expected to enter the area Thursday afternoon and evening, marking the front edge of an arriving cold front. The cold front will have much colder air, and with it the potential for the rain through the central part of the state to become what the service is calling a “winter mix” Thursday night.

With less than an inch of rain predicted, the impact is “not expected to be significant,” the service stated. The eastern part of the state is expected to experience more winter weather, with up to an inch of snow in east and northeastern Arkansas.

The weather front is expected to move out Friday, but a second wave of cold air will follow it, leading to a cold weekend.
