The Heber Springs Board of Education met recently. The meeting was called to order by Gary Redd and all school board members were present. The members present were Dr. Alan Stauffacher, Richard Whybrew, Gary Redd, Judy Crowder, Kevin Thomas and Bryce Farmer. The agenda included approval of financial reports, recognition of Jag students as well as resignations and contract revision. The financial report was presented by Dr. Stan Stauffacher. He reported a beginning balance for the 2017-2018 school year of $3,732,983.85. The previous year at the same time the balance was $3,748,137.37  which creates a negative balance of $15,153.52. Revenues for the 2017-2018 school year were $1,459,961.87, the previous years, $1,67,307.61 with a negative balance of $21,345.74. The ending balance for this year was $3,835,148.36, $19,113.68 less than last year.

     Jag students recognized were Laura Ortiz Lil who won the State completion in math at UALR and also the National competition in Washington DC.  Victoria Goodwin who finished second at UALR in Speech. Next was Gregory Simmons who finished second in Employability skills. Myra Hicks and Kaitlin Hannah were recognized for their project called Breaking bread. All went to DC to represent the Heber Springs High School.

    Gary Redd stated that January 30 is the first day to pick up applications for the School Board. The election will be held on May 22. There are two seats that are opening up for those who wish to be on the school board to file for.
