The Heber Springs High School gym was the sight of Special Olympics with student athletes from Heber Springs, Concord, Mountain View, Searcy Jr. High, Sulphur Rock, Batesville, Cedar Ridge, Southside Jr. and Sr. High from Batesville and Eagle Mountain elementary. Students from Heber Springs High School assisted with the student athletes in different activity stations. Those students were Alex Roys, Bryce Morris, Trevor Torres, John McBroome, Zach Lemmons, Connor Bise, Thad Bray, Abbi McBroome, Courtney Eddington, Samantha Hilbourne, Mary Shearer, Maddi Stringfellow, Emeli Bise and Carlei Douglas.

The event was coordinated by Coach Gaye Stark, with assistance from Linnet Tournear and Sonya Cole. HSHS student James Martin and Librarian Jennifer Petray entertained with the Johnny Cash hit, “Jackson.” Go to The Sun Times Facebook page to view the song.

SRO’s Hiltz and Wildman were on hand and interacted with students shaking hands and talking with them.

Approximately 60 students, ages 6-18, attended the event, many wearing specially designed t-shirts for the event. Concord schools shirts were designed by a student in the purple and gold colors of the Pirates with a superhero logo on front and the words “Not all superheros wear capes” on the back.

The students were served pizza from Pizza Pie-zazz for lunch before heading back to their own campuses.
