HEBER SPRINGS — One person was rescued and a second person drowned after a capsized boat incident Monday evening, per a statement from Heber Springs Fire Department.

A 911 call came in at 5:44 p.m. Monday evening Aug. 31 that a boat had capsized and “persons in the water near the 800 block of Ferguson Road.” The call triggered a River Rescue response, which automatically notifies Heber Springs Fire, Cleburne County Search and Rescue, Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office and Arkansas Game and Fish officers.

Per the statement the River Rescue call prompted Survival Flight to launch a helicopter, which participated in the search, joining boats and rescuers.

Rescuers were able to recover one person, with a second person being “declared deceased on scene,” per the department statement.

The incident remains under investigation.
