Trenton Douglas (T.D.) Smith passed away December 25, 2017

Trenton Douglas (T.D.) Smith, 82, died on 25 December 2017 at home in Edgemont AR.  He was born on 6 May 1935 to Edgar Bay Smith and Delta Louise Hargrave Smith in Ottumwa IA.  He spent his teen years in Paducah KY, graduating from Augusta Tilghman High School.  After attending Murray State College KY and Central College, Pella IA, he enlisted in the Air Force, where he worked in administration and communications.  He was stationed at many bases from Hawaii to the desert of North Africa to a mountaintop in Turkey before retiring in 1975.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Carole Yvonne Love, and her husband, Thomas Love; and his son, Douglas Edward Smith.  He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Cecelia Anne Sohn Smith; nieces, Barbara Lynn Palmer and Elizabeth Rebecca Smith; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Waring and her husband, Jack Waring; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was a man of many interests including a passion for roller and ice skating as a youth and listening to jazz and playing piano as he grew older. He enjoyed amateur radio, flying, train trips and model railroading, reading, golfing, camping and fishing.  He loved riding Ferris wheels and riding around town in his Miata convertible.  Especially dear to him were his pets, Misty, Heidi and Bubba.  He was a Christian and belonged to the Masons, Scottish Rite, Shriners and the Greers Ferry Amateur Radio Club.  After living all over the country, he was proud to call Arkansas home and loved the wonderful friends he made here.

We extend special thanks to Dr. John Herring and his staff for the great care given him over the years; to Teagus Majors, David Bryant and Rob Bentley for always being there to lift his body and his spirits; and for the care given by White River Medical Center/Rehab, Baptist Home Health Care and Hospice Home Care the past couple months.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greers Ferry Ambulance Fund, PO Box 1264, Greers Ferry AR 72067 or the Greers Ferry Library, 8249 Edgemont Road, Greers Ferry AR 72067.

A memorial service will be held on 25 January 2018, 2 PM, at Westside Baptist Church in Greers Ferry with visitation at 1 PM.  Cremains will be interred at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Columbarium, Fairfield Bay.  Arrangements are under the direction of Olmstead Funeral Home,
