Betty Goodell Buchman was born December 2, 1929. She was the daughter of Glenn O. and Bessie Snow Goodell. She was born at Lake Park, Iowa and attended the Excelsior School, graduating with the class of 1947.

She was married to Charles E. Buchman, JR. on June 6, 1948. Betty worked at Northwestern Bell in Spirit Lake for five years.  When her children were born she opened her home to day care for other working mothers at times caring for ten   children. Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and served as treasurer and circle chairman in United Methodist Women.  She also served for several years as church librarian. In 1954 she became education assistant for the church.  She worked at the Spirit Lake Clinic Pharmacy from 1963 until she retired in 1983.

Most important to Betty was her family, caring for her grandchildren whenever the opportunity arose.  She enjoyed family gatherings with her brothers and sisters also. Betty and her husband, Chuck, loved traveling.  With two sons in the Air Force they visited states where they were stationed as well as Germany.  Betty  enjoyed music, crafts, sewing and reading. She was seldom seen without a book in her hands.

Betty retired in 1983, she and Chuck moved to Heber Springs, Arkansas.  They loved their new community and became involved in various activities.  They joined the First United Methodist Church where Betty sang in the choir and was active in United Methodist Women being secretary for several years.  She also became the church librarian holding the position for twenty years until her death in 2019.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles and four brothers Clayton Goodell, Donnie Goodell, Jack Goodell and Oran Goodell and one sister Olive Mills. Left to mourn her passing are her son, Terry and Lillian Buchman of Cabot, Arkansas, daughter Cherie Williams of Heber Springs and son Michael of Plattesmouth, Nebraska. Her grandsons Shane Mossman and wife Carey of St. Paul, Minnesota, Shawn Buchman of Cabot, Arkansas, Travis Mossman Williams of Ocala, Florida,  Whitney Buchman and wife Mary of Garden City, Kansas and granddaughters Cherie Simpson and husband Jacob, Shannon Greenway and David of Conway,  Arkansas, Amber Starr and husband Que of Atlanta Georgia, and   Ashley Clark and husband Ben of Ward, Arkansas, Heather Buchman of Cabot,   Arkansas. Nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild . Also one brother Leon and Gladys Goodell of Lake Park, Iowa, two sisters Joyce Monier of Sibley, Iowa and June Butterfield of  Preston, Idaho,  sister in laws LaVonne     Goodell of Alexandria, Minnesota, Betty Goodell of Lake Park, Iowa, and Eloise Goodell of Lake Park, Iowa, as well as many nieces, nephews and many friends.

A visitation was held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Family Funeral Service from 6:00 until 8:00 PM and a funeral service was held on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 3:00 PM in the First United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Family Funeral Service.www.dwightfamilyfuneral.com
