Leading 27-26 heading into the final eight minutes of play, the Lady Pirates reeled off a final 24-2 run that propelled them to their second straight win on the young season.

Concord used baskets from in close to get out to a 12-7 lead, as junior forward Ashlyn Deckard scored from down low twice while senior guard Lizzie White went coast to coast, as junior guard Jaylyn Jefferson finished on a drive and Deckard finished the run with a putback on a Jefferson miss.

The Lady Screamin' Eagles won the second frame 9-6 behind the duo of junior Mickayla Smith and senior Paige Penn who combined for all nine points, trailing the Lady Pirates 18-16 at the break.

Hillcrest took the lead back on a three pointer from Smith with six minutes remaining in the third quarter, but Concord used seven made free throws, including the final two from junior guard Annalise Cornett to reclaim the advantage 27-26 going into the final quarter.

An 11-0 run out of the gate gave the Lady Pirates a cushion after the junior quartet of Deckard, Jefferson, Cornett and Avery Southerland provided the spark the offense needed as Cornett clipped on back-to-back three point plays and two more scores before Deckard ended the contest with four straight points.

Deckard and Cornett each provided Concord with 12, while Jefferson and White each tacked on 8 apiece. Smith led all scorers with 13.

The Screamin' Eagles got out to a 25-8 lead and never looked back in their triumph over the Pirates.

It was a barrage of three-pointers for Hillcrest early on, as senior Houston Netref and junior Colton Rose both fired in trifectas to get the home team on the scoreboard up 33-20. Concord sophomore Braxton Cousins used finishes from inside while brother and junior Bryar Cousins knocked down two triples of his own to keep the Pirates in it.

Junior Clint Nunnally got in on the action from beyond the arc after getting a shot from downtown to fall, as Trevor Nunnally and Netrefa added three more to the Screamin' Eagles total. Braxton Cousins tacked on three more finishes from the block, the third of which resulted in a three-point play, but it was too little, too late for the Pirates, who suffered their second straight loss.

Trevor Nunnally led the way with 16 points for Hillcrest, while Rose followed behind with 14. Braxton Cousins led all scorers with 18, as Bryar Cousins chipped in 14.

On Friday, Concord was back on the court in the Twin Rivers Classic, with the girls falling 67-63 and the boys prevailing 87-85.
