Heber Springs senior Nick Chaney put the pen to paper and signed his national letter of intent to play baseball for Lyon College this past Thursday before family and friends.
As a sophomore, Chaney posted a .349 batting average to go with 18 runs, 22 hits, 21 RBI and nine doubles. Last season, Chaney turned in a 2018 campaign that saw him hit .311 with 24 runs, 23 hits and 17 RBI. The 2017 Panthers finished with a 21-9 overall record, taking fourth place in the regional tournament before falling in their state opener to Monticello. The 2018 squad went 16-12, missing the state playoffs by one game after coming up short in their regional opener to Gosnell.
The Lyon College Scots baseball team concluded 2018 with an overall mark of 37-17, winning the AMC regular season championship before punching a ticket the NAIA National Tournament in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
