Lyon awarded gold status in AMC's Champions of Character

ST. LOUIS — Lyon College athletics was named as a gold status Champions of Character Five-Star Award winners for 2021-22.

Institutions are measured on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earn points in character training, conduct in completion, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion. Institutions earned points based on exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and by having minimal to no ejections during competition throughout the course of the academic year.

Last season, the Scots athletic teams won the American Midwest Conference Men’s Soccer title, the women’s basketball crown for the regular season and the AMC baseball regular season and tournament championships for 2021-22.

All of the Scots athletic teams had multiple players were awarded All-Academic honors during the season for maintaining a high grade point average.

Three coaches for the Scots, Tony Roepke (baseball), Tracy Stewart-Lange (women’s basketball) and David Groves (men’s soccer) coached their respective teams to championships. Also, Lyon College men’s and women’s track and field/cross country coach Adam Trausch received the AMC Champions of Character award this year and Lyon College’s own Kevin Jenkins was voted the AMC Athletic Director of the year.

Cross country meet slated

The Lyon College cross country team is hosting the Lyon College Junior High / High School Invitational on Tuesday, August 30 at Lyon College.

The entry fee for larger middle and high schools is $50. The entry for smaller team rosters is $10 per competitor.

The junior high boys are set to run a 1.5 mile race at 4:30 p.m. and junior high girls are set to run a 1.5 mile race at 5 p.m.

The high school boys are set to run a 5k starting at 5:30 p.m. and the high school girls are set to run a 5k starting at 6 p.m.

Teams that have already signed up include Arkadelphia, Cave City, Heber Springs, and Jonesboro.

Season passes available

The Lyon College Athletic Department has announced that season ticket renewals and sales for the upcoming 2022-23 home athletic events are now available. Fans can renew or purchase 2022-23 season ticket packages for men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, volleyball, softball and football by mailing in a ticket brochure to the Lyon College Athletic Department (Lyon Athletics, P.O. Box 2317, Batesville, AR 72503).

The Scots’ football team will host five games at Pioneer Stadium in 2022. Season ticket packages are $35 for a season pass (admits one), $70 for a family pass (admits two). A group season pass (admits six) can be purchased for $475 and includes all football add-ons (six chair back seats and one reserved parking pass). Fans can upgrade their tickets to include reserved chair-back seating at Pioneer Stadium for $50 more per season pass or $100 more for each family pass. A reserved parking pass can also be purchased for an extra $50 each.

The Lyon College volleyball team will play nine matches inside Becknell Gymnasium during its 2022 season this fall. Season passes (admits one) for this upcoming volleyball season can be purchased for $40 each, while a family pass (admits two) can be purchased for $80 each.

The Lyon College 2022-23 men’s and women’s basketball schedules will be released in the coming weeks. In preparation for their upcoming seasons, fans can purchase a season pass (admits one) for $65 or a family pass (admits two) for $125. Fans can upgrade their tickets to reserved chair-back seating for an extra $50 for each season pass.

The Lyon College 2023 baseball and softball schedules will be released this winter. For this upcoming softball season, tickets can be purchased at $40 each for a season pass (admits one) or $80 each for a family pass (admits two). Baseball season passes (admits one) can be purchased for $40 each or $80 each for a family pass (admits two).

Kilted Army Season Passes that can be used for all home athletic events except for football can be purchased for $125 each for the Scots Club (admits one), $350 each for the Tartan Club (admits four) and $700 each for a corporate pass (admits six; includes six chair back seats for basketball games).

Single-game tickets for home volleyball, baseball and softball can be purchased for $5 each (ages 11-and-over), while 10-and-under are free. Men’s and women’s basketball single-game tickets are $6 each for ages 11-and-over, while 10-and-under are free. Single-game tickets for home football games are $8 each for ages 11-and-over, while 10-and-under are free. There will be no gate fee for home men’s and women’s soccer matches or men’s and women’s wrestling matches.

All Lyon College faculty, staff and students get in free with their Lyon ID.
