There is always something exciting about the start to a new year, as the calendar turns over many folks look to resolutions, new beginnings, or simply a fresh start.

They say with age come wisdom, but this whole getting older thing is happening way too fast for my liking, but I will most definitely make the most of it as some of my new-found wisdom says to enjoy each and every moment, for as we all know tomorrow is not promised.

A fresh start can be great for everyone so I was thinking of a more positive spin to ringing in the New Year in 2023. As for the outdoor enthusiasts who reside there is a multitude of things to look forward to in 2023.

As we all know that we are blessed with some of the top fisheries in the country with Lake Dardanelle, Lake Ouachita, & Greers Ferry being top level destinations for the fishing industry and pleasure seekers from all over.

January and February always seem to produce some of those “humongous” winter & pre-spawn giants that make for great conversation and anchor angler’s stringers as their favorite tournament circuits get underway.

Next thing you know spring will be have sprung and fishing will once again take center stage for a few months and hopefully a couple of the major circuits will make their way to Arkansas and showcase the great fishing that we all enjoy.

This spring as the weather turns and the trees begin to bloom our next major event will be turkey season.

Although our turkey numbers are down statewide, the AGFC continues to try and put a plan together to get the numbers back up and hopefully their continued efforts will be more noticeable this spring.

The turkey population seems to be down from the last two years, although in the last week or so I have seen a few more birds than at the beginning of the fall deer season and am hanging on to some hope that things will be better this spring.

Deer season was fairly successful again this year with more hunters than ever taking to the woods. The Arkansas Big Buck Classic will give us a great indication of just how good the season was as it takes place in late January.

Also, if you have not checked out their posts on Facebook, give it a look, as there are tons of awesome pictures.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for a very positive 2022. We have shared some very interesting and touching stories and many locals have had a ton of success in numerous outdoor endeavors this past year.

As we enter this new year, I would like to wish everyone continued success, great health, and a great beginning to 2023.

Happy New Year to each and every one of you and as always if you have a story to share, simply drop me a line!
